Tour of Backstrong Clinic

Dr. Castanet gives you an introductory tour to the physical premises at Backstong. We provide the finest in physical therapy in Atlanta, with the most sophisticated equipment AND the best in manual therapy also.

Cervical MRI Scan Demonstration

Dr. Castanet shows you a cervical MRI scan and some typical pathology. He also explains the nature of neck problems and why spinal decompression provides medicine’s only present, regenerative effort for these problems. Physical therapy for neck problems should almost always include spinal decompression as a central component of treatment. This is especially appropriate from a long-term perspective. Spinal degeneration, like all other degenerative conditions, deserves a long-term perspective. That should include partially reversing the compressive process of spinal degeneration anytime that someone has neck or low back pain. Some doctors do not know that decompressing/distracting a disc has physiologically regenerative consequences, microscopically, macroscopically and meaningfully with improved pain and function.

Demonstration of Low Back and Neck Disc Problems & Pain

Do you know why neck and low back pain are so common? They are common-nearly universal- among people at some time in their life. What causes this? In this video, Dr. Castanet explains what underlies this common source of human pain and suffering. Did you know that most clinics are missing the boat on the cause of low back pain. Sure, they know about exercises and stretching……and those are important too. But all the x-rays and MRI scans are documenting compressive changes in the spine. It’s these compressive lesions, e.g. disc herniations, disc degeneration, compressed nerves, stenosis, arthropathy, modic boney changes, etc. that give rise to pain and disability. That’s also why people generally get relief from lying down! Compression, as a physical phenomenon must be alleviated to improve pain and disability arising from this process and these degenerative changes. If you still have pain after therapy, injections and surgery, consider coming to Backstrong for a second opinion.

Medx Neck Rehabilitation- extension

In this video Dr. Castanet demonstrates a patient performing strengthening exercises for the neck. These are important for many patients with neck pain and disability. This particular machine is to strengthen and rehabilitate the extensor muscles and function of the neck. This Medx machine is very rare among clinics. Dr. Castanet was the first person in Georgia to evaluate the machines in 1987 and has probably administered this treatment to more patients than anyone in the USA. It was the most effective tool he ever used until he began using the SpineMED spinal decompression tool in 2006. These tools provide the most effective method for meaningful strengthening and rehabilitaion of neck function. The outcome is generally less pain and better range of motion for patients.

Spinal Decompression Explained

In this video Dr. Castanet, again, explains how and why spinal decompression works better than other treatments for difficult neck and back pain.

Medx Neck Rehab – Rotation

In this video, Dr. Castanet shows you a patient performing strengthening physical therapy for the neck muscles that turn/rotate the neck. This is a critical function in the neck and only 25 of these machines exist in the world- they are a collectors item. For many patients, turning their neck is a painful problem and this machine improves that function and reduces the pain associated with that movement. This is a wonderful exercise for patients with persistent neck pain and limited range of motion.

Tips on Doing Your Activities with Back & Neck Pain

This informative video explains a number of suggestions for “managing” your low back pain, including how to do different activities of daily living, how to do some exercises for your low back and the rationale for these things. At Backstrong, in Atlanta, we try our best to educate patients about their problems by showing them their MRI scan results, explaining their pathology and educating them. We want patients to get better and stay better as long as possible. An informed patient does better. An uninformed patient is more likely to have recurrent problems and be unhappy with their problems. All patients, non-surgical and surgical, need to understand as much as possible about their problems.

Demonstration Spinal Decompression Neck

Watch as this patient receives cervical spinal decompression treatment, a component of physical therapy at Backstrong Clinic. Dr. Castanet explains the rationale for such treatment, what happens and why it is the most effective treatment he has encountered in his 25 years professional experience. And, why it makes perfect sense that it is so effective for most patients.

Demonstration Low Back Spinal Decompression

In this video, Dr. Castanet shows you a patient receiving spinal decompression as treatment. He explains how it works and why it works to improve pain and disability. It is almost always worth trying with patients, unless some absolute contraindication exists. Dr. Castanet uses this treatment liberally, i.e. with almost all patients, because it helps what ails human spines- the progressive, compressive, degenerative changes that give rise to pain and disability. Keep in mind, that Dr. Castanet has excellent working relationships with pain physicians and neurosurgeons and refers to these specialist when appropriate. But spinal decompression should be used before or after conventional physical therapy, injections or surgery have failed to give satisfactory results.

Medx Low Back Rehab

Dr. Castanet explains how physical therapy using the Medx lumbar extension tool works to improve strength and function. Of course, the purpose of all physical therapy is to improve pain and disability as much as possible. This rehabilitation tool represents the best method for improving strength and function for patients with chronic low back pain. On this machine, we can measure a patient’s range of motion and strength, compare them to normative data, rehabiliate any functional losses, improve pain and function and, most importantly, make patients happy again.

Lumbar MRI scan Demonstration

This video reviews a lumbar MRI scan to explain/inform patients about some of the typical pathology/problems noted on a low back MRI scan. Dr. Castanet shows you some pathology, explains the nature of it and why spinal decompression is an essential component to rational treatment for such problems. Most painful low back lesions are due to compression of the discs, nerves and joints. Spinal decompression provides direct treatment of this degenerative process.
